NTE Side Quest Guide: Anomaly Commissions, Rewards & How to Unlock
A guide to side quests and Anomaly Commissions in Neverness to Everness (NTE) — the types of side content and how they play, how to unlock and find them on the map, and a rundown of the rewards that matter for F2P players.
Published: 2026/05/22
Quick answer: NTE’s side quests are also known as “Anomaly Commissions,” with gameplay spanning combat, puzzles, parkour, racing, horror adventures and more. After you light up the towers in each district to clear the war fog, side quests appear on the map as blue exclamation marks. The 3 side quests that unlock system features are the most worth prioritizing: In the Reflection (gender switching), A Retrograde Poem for You (snowy weather), and Norms on the Anomaly Express (Ghost Train).
Beyond the main story, the open world of Neverness to Everness hides a huge amount of side content. For F2P players, side quests are a steady source of resources; for players who love the story, they’re a way to fill out the worldbuilding. This article breaks down the types of side quests, how to unlock them, and their rewards.
What kinds of side content does NTE have
Aside from the main-story chapters that drive the plot, NTE’s quests include several types:
- Side quests (Anomaly Commissions) — the various commissions in the open world that deal with the “Anomalies” around the city; this is the most plentiful kind of side content.
- Side stories — extended stories tied to the main plot that focus on individual characters.
- Bond quests — short quests centered on a single character and tied to affinity.
- Guidance quests — tutorial-style quests that walk you through the game’s systems.
- Daily quests — dailies that reset every day; clearing them builds up activity rewards.
Among these, “Anomaly Commissions” are the part the community discusses most; there are also the more challenging, boss-fight-focused “High-Risk Commissions.”
Side quest gameplay is highly varied
NTE’s side quests aren’t all “kill monsters and hand in.” Anomaly Commission gameplay is quite diverse — there are pure combat stages, but also puzzles, parkour, racing, and even content with story-driven adventures or a horror atmosphere. This variety makes clearing side quests an enjoyable part of exploring the open world in its own right.
How to unlock and find side quests
- Clear the fog by lighting towers first — only after you light up a district’s towers and clear the war fog will that district’s side quests and collection points show up.
- Look for blue exclamation marks — once unlocked, side quests appear on the map marked with a blue exclamation mark.
- Check district by district in the collection menu — open the map’s collection menu to switch by district and view each district’s list of unfinished side quests so you don’t miss any.
- Watch for trigger conditions — some side quests have special trigger conditions, such as a specific weather or time, or requiring you to reach a certain Hunter level or finish a prerequisite quest first.
Most side quests unlock gradually as you progress through the prologue and the open world properly opens up.
Side quest rewards
What makes side quests worth doing is how tangible their rewards are for progression:
- Gacha resources — they add up considerably and are an important free source for F2P players.
- Fons — the economic currency of the Urban Tycoon system.
- Upgrade materials — the mats needed to level up characters and gear.
- Hunter EXP — pushes your account level and unlocks more system features.
- Arc Discs — some higher-rarity commissions award Arc Discs (weapons), a great way to boost early-to-mid combat power.
Key side quests at a glance
Below is a rundown of the landmark side quests that currently have fairly complete community data and that affect the play experience. The full set is estimated at over 30 quests, and this site will keep adding to it as data matures. The “why it’s a must-do” attached to each can serve as a guide to priority.
⭐ In the Reflection — Unlocks Gender Switching
- Location: Bridge Crossings · Hankaku Street, by the fountain in front of Wertheimer Tower
- Trigger: After finishing Prologue 2, talk to the “Excited Passerby” by the fountain
- Key steps: Following the passerby’s directions, first go to the Vintage Shop and pry clues out of Good Joe, then head to the Gold Apple Collection Hall in the New Herland district, interact with the basin beside it and fill it with water; after seeing the protagonist’s “opposite-sex reflection,” report back to the quest giver.
- Rewards: Unlocks the “Switch Appraiser” feature — switch the protagonist’s gender at any time; plus a Bridge Crossings footprint point.
- Why it’s a must-do: It looks like an ordinary dialogue quest, but it’s actually the only way to switch the protagonist’s gender. Skip it and you’re stuck with your starting gender, so be sure to grab it.
⭐ A Retrograde Poem for You — Unlocks Snowy Weather
- Location: Miguel District · Felicita Gelato shop, NPC is Daisy
- Trigger: After finishing Prologue 2, talk to Daisy (the shop has just been cleaned out of gelato by a biker gang)
- Key steps: After defeating the biker gang that came to steal the gelato, follow the snowman Anomaly “Puff” to visit three shops (a ramen shop, a seafood shop — bring a 30,000 Fons deposit — and the Gold Apple Collection Hall), take Puff to the top of Helot Sky Tower for photos, and finish at Caltrop Lake Station the next day.
- Rewards: Unlocks snowy weather; plus Hunter EXP, Crystals and Fons.
- Why it’s a must-do: Snowy weather is one of the few weather types you have to unlock, and some hidden side quests are tied to a specific weather to trigger, so open it up first.
⭐ Norms on the Anomaly Express — Unlocks the Ghost Train
- Location: The “Beyond the Rails” Anomaly-zone train station in the north of the Miguel District, NPC is the owl stationmaster Miss Levi
- Trigger: Walk into the train station and talk to Miss Levi
- Key steps: The stationmaster requires you to pass an exam first — go to the Bureau of Anomaly Control (BAC) and collect a boarding permit from the Daily Safety Department receptionist, then return to the BAC to complete the written exam; after passing, return to Miss Levi to claim your personal Ghost Train Ticket.
- Rewards: 60 Crystals + a personal Ghost Train Ticket (lets you repeatedly ride the Ghost Train challenge).
- Why it’s a must-do: This is the only entry point to the mid-to-late-game challenge content “Ghost Train” — skip it and you’ll be stuck there.
Miles Apart — The Longest Side Quest in the Game (about 30 minutes)
- Location: New Herland district · the Gold Apple Collection Hall on Crocodile Clock Avenue, NPC is Iris
- Trigger: After finishing Prologue 1 “Unforeseen Yet Foretold,” talk to Iris
- Key steps: Get the “A Switch” from the hall’s “Lightbulb Anomaly,” which lets you switch between two timelines, the “Bright Present” and the “Dark Past.” Follow the girl on the swing inside, choose yellow roses at the flower shop, collect four key items across both timelines (a design draft, a children’s book, a sticky note, and a repaired teddy bear), submit the correct items among the memory portraits, then beat back 5 waves of enemies in the corridor to finish.
- Rewards: Mid-tier resources such as Hunter EXP ×400, Crystals ×60, and Fons ×15,000.
- Highlight: Dual-timeline puzzle-solving paired with story; widely regarded as the most story-rich side quest.
Weather Watch — Strict Conditions, Easy to Miss
- Location: Bridge Crossings · the V.i.B self-service laundromat on White Parrot Street
- Trigger conditions: You must first complete Prologue 2’s “Good Business, Better Treasure,” then set the weather to rain and the time to after 19:00 for the two students to appear
- Key steps: Eavesdrop on the two students’ conversation → enter the laundromat to take shelter from the rain and calm the Fir that stays behind → walk into the rain to track the missing student’s footprints, and with the JTF members clear 5 “Rain Person” Anomalies → return to that street the next day between 18:00–20:00 and talk to Bixing to finish.
- Rewards: Mid-tier Hunter EXP, Crystals, Fons, etc.; also linked to the “A Rainy Day in Hethereau” achievement.
- Note: The rain + night trigger condition is easy to miss, so set the weather and time correctly before accepting the quest.
Drift Away, Legend! — A Racing-Exclusive Quest
- Location: Miguel District · the Natsunari tofu shop
- Trigger: After finishing Prologue 2, go in and talk to the owner Sota, choosing “Business booming?”

The key is cornering timing and drift rhythm.

After School — Horror Evasion

Riding a motorcycle can keep you from being caught (tested by community members).
- Rewards: Crystals, a basic enhancement material pack, a rare accessory.
- Highlight: A signature horror-flavored quest.
Nightmare Bound — Nameless Hospital, Four Endings

Deep Blue Sorrow — Nighttime Undersea Tunnel Boss
- Location: New Herland district · Nautilus Tunnel (the undersea tunnel)

Practical tips for clearing side quests
- Clear the fog first, then batch-clear — when you reach a new region, light up the towers first, then come back and clear an entire district’s commissions in one go for the best efficiency.
- Make good use of the collection menu — check each district’s unfinished items to avoid missing hidden side quests.
- Don’t just push the main story — side quests are a steady source of resources for F2P players, and when you’re short on mats or gacha resources, clearing a batch of side quests really helps.
- Note down conditional quests — when you hit a side quest that needs specific weather or time, remember to come back and finish it later.
To learn more about free-resource channels, see the F2P Free Resources Guide; brand-new players can also start with the Beginner’s Guide.
Frequently Asked Questions

What are "Anomaly Commissions"? +
Anomaly Commission is the community's common name for the open-world side quests. They revolve around the various "Anomalies" scattered across the city, and the gameplay is hugely varied — from combat and puzzles to parkour and racing, even story-driven adventures and stages with a horror atmosphere.
What if I can't finish all the side quests? +
No need to rush. NTE has a huge number of side quests, and more keep being added with each version, so there is no way (and no need) to clear them all at once. Treat them as part of your routine — knock them out along the way, or batch a bunch when you are short on resources.
Which side quests in NTE are must-dos? +
Three side quests that unlock system features are especially worth prioritizing: "In the Reflection" (unlocks gender switching), "A Retrograde Poem for You" (unlocks snowy weather), and "Norms on the Anomaly Express" (unlocks the mid-to-late-game "Ghost Train" challenge). Others are also well worth your time, such as the longest and most story-rich "Miles Apart," the four-ending "Nightmare Bound," and the strictly conditional "Weather Watch."
The data in this article is compiled from community sources. Side quest content and rewards are adjusted with version updates, so always defer to what’s in-game.
