NTE Global vs TW/HK/MO Server: Which to Pick, How to Download, Can You Cross-Play?

A full comparison of Neverness to Everness (NTE) Global server (Perfect World) vs the TW/HK/MO server (iwplay) — language, platforms, servers, payments, cross-progression differences, plus download guides for every platform.

Published: 2026/05/24

Quick answer: The TW/HK/MO server (iwplay) and the Global server (run directly by Perfect World) are two completely independent servers — progress does not carry over, and not even the Global server’s own 4 regional servers share progress with each other. The Global server has full Traditional Chinese support; PC needs no VPN, while iOS / Android / PS5 require handling a cross-region account. For most players we recommend the TW/HK/MO server (easy payments, local customer support); pick the Global server if you want to top up at the yen exchange rate, or want to play with overseas friends.

A lot of Taiwanese players agonize over this: should you play NTE on the TW/HK/MO server or the Global server? Can you cross-play between them? Are the two versions roughly the same in content? This article lays out the differences between the two servers, how to download each, language, payments, and who each is for — all in one place.

Global vs TW/HK/MO Server: Which Should You Pick?

The TW/HK/MO server is a better fit if you…

  • Prefer easy payments (NTD card, MyCard, iwplay platform top-up)
  • Need local customer support and a Chinese-speaking community (Bahamut and Mobile01 are dominated by Taiwan-version players)
  • Want low latency (local servers, direct connection via Taiwan ISPs)
  • Plan to attend Taiwan offline events
  • Don’t want to deal with a cross-region Apple ID, a VPN, or a foreign Google account
  • Are a newcomer playing for the first time — strongly recommended

The Global server is a better fit if you…

  • Want to top up at the yen exchange rate (about 80% of the price; the difference is meaningful for heavy spenders)
  • Want to play with overseas friends (America / Europe / SEA regions)
  • Worry the Taiwan version will become a “special server” in future and want first-hand official information from Perfect World
  • Plan to go cross-platform later, especially Mac or Google Play Games (the Taiwan version has neither)
  • Already have a cross-region Apple ID / foreign Google account, so cross-region setup is no problem for you

Not sure? Pick the TW/HK/MO server

For 99% of Taiwanese players, the TW/HK/MO server is the better choice — easy payments, local support, an active community, and no cross-region hassle. Unless you have a clear reason from the Global server list above, there’s no need to put yourself through the trouble.

Download Guides for the Global Server, by Platform

PC (the easiest ⭐)

  1. Go to nte.perfectworld.com
  2. Download the official launcher
  3. The install path must be in English (a Chinese path will cause problems)
  4. Space required: about 60GB to download, plus another 45GB after extraction — an SSD is recommended
  5. No VPN needed at all — a Taiwan IP can download and play directly

iOS

  1. You need an Apple ID set to a supported region such as the US, Japan, or Hong Kong (the Taiwan region can’t find it)
  2. Before switching your Apple ID region: use up your balance and cancel all subscriptions
  3. In the region-switched App Store, search for “NTE: Neverness to Everness
  4. An Apple ID can only be tied to one region, so it’s best to register a fresh Apple ID dedicated to the Global server

Android (Google Play — the most troublesome)

  1. Use Proton VPN to connect to a supported country (Canada / the Netherlands are confirmed to work)
  2. Create a new Google account (dedicated to the Global server) and switch to it in the Play Store
  3. Search for “NTE Global” or “NTE: Neverness to Everness”, then install
  4. You can turn off the VPN after installing — you don’t need to keep the VPN on to run the game

PS5

  • Download via a PSN region that supports the Global server (US / Japan / Hong Kong)
  • Note: a Taiwan PSN account will actually run the iwplay TW/HK/MO publisher version, not the Global version
  • The Global server supports PS5 and PS5 Pro (PS4 is not supported; see System Requirements)

Language: The Global Server Fully Supports Traditional Chinese

This is easy to misunderstand — the Global server is not English-only:

  • 9 text languages: English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese
  • 4 voice languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese
  • Subtitles and voice can be mixed independently, switchable in-game at any time with no restart

In other words: Taiwanese players can play the Global server with a Traditional Chinese interface + Japanese voice with no reading barrier at all. Language should not be a factor in deciding which server to play.

Payments: The Global Server Can Save ~20% (With Conditions)

TW/HK/MO ServerGlobal Server
Payment methodsNTD credit card, MyCard, iwplay platformUSD, JPY, other national currencies
Exchange-rate advantageNoneJPY about 80% of price (friendly for Taiwanese players)
Setup difficultyLow — one-tap card paymentHigh — requires a cross-region account + a foreign credit card or gift card
Customer supportLocal Chinese-speaking supportInternational support, mainly in English

The 20% JPY discount is the Global server’s biggest real advantage, but only if you’re willing to handle the Japan-region account setup. For detailed top-up channels, see the Top-Up Guide.

Version-Sync Status Between the Two Servers

As of now (May 2026), the two versions are in step on version pacing:

  • 1.0 open beta: the CN / Taiwan / Global versions launched on the same day (2026/04/29)
  • 1.1 “Dream Wandering Corridor”: the CN version updated on 5/28, and the Taiwan + Global versions updated together on 6/3

But because they’re run by different operators, the risk of future decoupling still exists (the community worries about precedents set by some games’ Taiwan versions). For now, across the first 1-2 versions the pacing looks consistent, but this needs long-term observation, so you can keep it in mind before choosing a server.

Clearing Up Common Misconceptions

❌ “The Global server is English-only” — Wrong; it fully supports Traditional Chinese subtitles plus Chinese / Japanese / Korean / English voice.

❌ “You have to keep a VPN on for the Global server” — Wrong; PC needs none at all, and Android only needs it during the “download” stage; playing requires none.

❌ “The two servers’ data can be merged later” — Wrong; the two servers’ account systems are completely independent, with no merge plans.

❌ “Switching Global server regions (Asia ↔ America) carries your data over” — Wrong; the 4 regional servers don’t connect with one another, so switching regions means starting over.

❌ “Playing PS5 on a Taiwan PSN account is the Global server” — Wrong; it actually runs the iwplay TW/HK/MO publisher version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does progress carry over between the NTE Global server and the TW/HK/MO server? +

No. The TW/HK/MO server (run by iwplay) and the Global server (run directly by Perfect World) are two completely independent account systems — characters, top-ups, and gacha history are all kept separate. Even the 4 regional servers within the Global server (Asia / America / Europe / SEA) do not share progress with one another, so think carefully before you pick a server.

Does the Global server have Traditional Chinese? +

Yes! The Global server supports 9 text languages, explicitly including both Traditional and Simplified Chinese; voice-over is available in 4 languages (English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese). Subtitles and voice can be mixed independently and switched in-game at any time with no restart required. Taiwanese players can absolutely play the Global server with a Traditional Chinese interface.

How do I tell the TW/HK/MO server apart from the Global server? +

Two quick checks: (1) A "Select Server" screen at login = Global server; no server-select screen = TW/HK/MO server. (2) When the interface is set to Chinese, if the logo still reads "NTE" = Global server; if the logo changes to "異環" = TW/HK/MO server. The mobile app package names also differ: TW/HK/MO is tw.com.iwplay.nte, the Global version is com.hottagames.nte.

How do Taiwanese players download the Global server? Do I need a VPN? +

PC needs no VPN at all — just go to nte.perfectworld.com and download the official launcher. iOS requires an Apple ID set to a supported region such as the US, Japan, or Hong Kong to download it. Android (Google Play) is the most troublesome — it does not show up in the Taiwan store, so you need a VPN connected to Canada or the Netherlands to create a new Google account and search/install (you can turn the VPN off after installing). PS5 requires a supported PSN region (US, Japan, or Hong Kong).

Is the Global server cheaper to spend money on? +

Topping up through a Japan-region account gives Taiwanese players a friendlier yen exchange rate — roughly 80% of the price (a 20% discount). The Global server supports multi-region accounts (USD, JPY, etc.); the TW/HK/MO server can only charge in New Taiwan Dollars (credit card, MyCard, iwplay platform top-up). However, JPY top-ups require you to handle a cross-region account yourself, and the Global server has no local customer support. Big spenders who can manage cross-region setup may want to consider the Global server; newcomers or anyone who values convenience should go with the TW/HK/MO server.

Is there a risk the Taiwan version becomes a "special server" that falls behind? +

Right now, in the early open-beta period, both versions are content-synced — the 1.1 "Dream Wandering Corridor" update went live on the CN server on 5/28, and the Taiwan and Global versions updated together on 6/3. But because they are run by different operators, the community widely worries about future decoupling and benefit gaps (similar to how some other games treated their Taiwan versions). This needs long-term observation; for now, across the first 1-2 versions the pacing looks consistent.
